About Us

We are parent volunteers who developed this math enrichment program working with other parents and teachers when our daughters were in 5th grade. We both have technical degrees (physics and math) and had careers at Boeing and Microsoft. We are passionate about encouraging youngsters in the STEM subjects that are necessary for an increasingly technological world. In particular, we are eager to encourage girls who are often “turned off” by math by the time they reach their teens. In our opinion, the 5th and 6th grades are the ideal time to expose kids (especially girls) to how math can be fun!
After coaching our daughters and their friends in their own elementary school, we branched out to coach kids in other schools and to coach the coaches in those schools. We participated for several years in running a Math Olympiad site in the State of Washington, preparing materials and organizing the logistics on competition day in May. Our biggest event hosted more than 200 teams of 4 kids each (800 kids plus their parents and coaches) in Tacoma. Since first putting our materials online in the mid 1990s, we have enjoyed a positive response by other parents and educators. We are continuing to refine the materials, adding new challenges and new lesson plans each year.
